Peter’s research has focused on several fields. As a scientist working at Massachusetts General Hospital, he explored changes in brain structure in a mouse model of early-onset torsonial dystonia, a movement disorder with similar pathology to Parkinson’s. At Boston College, he explored novel mechanisms of how meiotic homologous recombination is regulated at retrotransposons in fission yeast. He has over ten years of experience in working with recombinant DNA, immunohistochemistry, whole-genome sequencing technology, and systems biology.

He is a teacher and a mentor for undergraduate students in both genetics and laboratory science. He has taught in both large seminar courses and small groups and is skilled in writing as a reviewer for scientific journals.
